let's mix it up. let's make it hot. let's make it last.

- If you were to pick yourself apart with tweezers, one atom at a time, you would produce a mound of fine atomic dust, none of which had ever been alive but all of which had once been you. (bill bryson)

A piece of floating dust is halfway between the size of the earth and a proton. (think about that for a second)

Butterflies don’t pee. They drink enough liquid for subsistence. Any extra is emitted as a pure water mist from their abdomens.

- If a billiard ball was expanded to the size of the earth the imperfections would be higher than Everest and deeper than the Mariana Trench.

- Number of bridges that cross the Amazon River: Zero.

The number of possible ways to arrange a 52 card deck is about the number of atoms in the galaxy. As a corollary, a good shuffle will result in a deck configuration that has never ever existed before.

the oatmeal provides a remarkably extensive ode to nikola tesla, one of my personal heroes and brethren. if you dig deeper on this man’s accomplishments and life, it will revolutionize the way you see the world.
why aren’t you digging yet?

this compilation of images was taken at seven different times during a single day. if you’ve ever spent a summer near the water, you’re probably familiar with each scene, and you know how light can radically change what you see (and how you feel). for me, this photograph is saturated with emotion.
i also like it because i can view it as an illustration of one’s life - starting with your 20s on the left, and ending in the 80s on the right. or one’s career. or…i don’t know what else, but it’s rather poetic.

ahhh…i remember when i was asked what i would want if i could have anything in the world, and i spent 20 minutes frantically searching my stressed-out, malnourished, arid brain for answers. i couldn’t come up with anything solid - all my wishes were wishy-washy. and then it hit me: it’s not that the things out there aren’t exciting, or meaningful, or beautiful. it was my mind that was the problem. my perception of the world. so, after 20 minutes i finally said, “i want a new brain,” and i meant it.
i don’t want to settle and watch time zip by the rest of my life. i want to re-charge and rewire and look at things in a new way.
ps (i am not a zombie.)

so many things in life are wonderfully bizzare, familiar yet so foreign at the same time. our bodies are AMAZING. looking deeper in (molecular level) or farther out (cosmos) still puts me in awe.
